"With Liberty and Justice For All" Dinner - February 27th

Since 1995, Touro Law Center has honored distinguished members of our community and alumni at our annual “With Liberty & Justice for All” Dinner Celebration. Each year, we recognize their outstanding achievements and commitments to the community. Our "Liberty and Justice For All" Dinner that was scheduled for Tuesday, November 13th has been rescheduled for Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 6:30 p.m. at the Garden City Hotel. We will honor the 2012 Members of Touro Law Center's Builders Society, including Professor Ilene Barshay '87, Honorable Leon Lazer, Professor Lawrence Raful and alums Thomas Rosicki '97 and Thomas Santucci '83.

After The Disaster: Ongoing Legal Needs for the Victims of Superstomr Sandy CLE Program

Touro Law Center and TLC Heart will be holding a CLE Program "After the Disaster: Ongoing Legal Needs for the Victims of Superstorm Sandy" on Friday, February 22nd from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Touro Law Center. 3 Professional Practice Credits are available.

Program Description: The legal needs of Superstorm Sandy's victims did not end when the utility tricks went home. This CLE will identify ongoing legal needs and how best to represent clients with their legal issues. The program will be hosted by two of Touro Law's experts in the field: Dean Patricia Salkin, a national expert in land use law and Professor Tracy McGaugh, an expert in disaster relief legal issues. Topics will include: Property Issues - environmental concerns, land use and rebuilding issues and insurance appeals; Government and Benefit Issues - FEMA Appeals, public benefits, housing and landlord-tenant issues; Consumer Issues -Labor and employment problems, contractor fraud.

The Touro Black Law Students Association and the AMISTAD LONG ISLAND BLACK BAR ASSOCIATION present the film: THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE followed by a panel discussion of the legal issues. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 5:45 p.m. Touro Law Center Auditorium 225 Eastview Drive • Central Islip, NY 11722 -5:45 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. Screening of the Central Park Five Film -7:45 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. Panel discussion with members of the Central Park Five including: Raymond Santana and Yusef Salaam, the filmmaker Sarah Burns, Professor Richard Klein, (Professor at Touro Law Center) and Professor Kirk D. Burkhalter, (Associate Professor of Law at New York Law School). This event is open to students, faculty and the public. There is a $5.00 suggested donation. Created in 2008, the Alumni Awards program recognizes and honors alums who are leaders in the profession and in the Touro Law Center Community. '09, Law Office of Ray Malone, PLLC received the Public Service Award Honorable Kathleen Rice '91, Nassau County District Attorney received the Keith Romaine Elected Official of the Year Award Michelle Schmitt, Esq. '07 associate at the firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman LLP received the Emerging Leader Award Jeff Donato, Esq. '00, Jeffrey M. Donato, PLLC received the Alumni Council Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award The awards were presented during the Annual Winter Alumni Reception that was held on Thursday, January 24th at the firm of Duane Morris LLP. Law Firm Challenge Results

Congratulations to the firm of Rosicki, Rosicki & Associates, P.C., under the leadership of Thomas Rosicki, Esq. '97 who are the winners of the 2012 Law Firm Challenge. The Law Firm Challenge Trophy was presented to members of the Rosicki Firm during the Annual Winter Alumni Reception on January 24th at the firm of Duane Morris LLP. Coming in second place was the law firm of Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman LLP under the leadership of Michelle Schmitt, Esq. '07. Established in 2010, the Law Firm Challenge provides alumni with a unique opportunity to reconnect with their alma mater, support the continued success of Touro Law Center, strengthen the alumni network and enchance their firm's profile. Firms with five or more Touro Law graduates are eligible to participate in the Law Firm Challenge.
