New Dean's Message on #GivingTuesday

Read the Dean's full message here!

Today marks #GivingTuesday, a new movement meant to counteract "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday" by establishing a day for "shoppers" to make a donation to a non-profit, NGO, or charity. In an address to the Touro Law community, Dean Salkin asks everyone to consider making a donation today to the Unrestricted Annual Fund, which would:

  • Allow us to allocate funds to where they are most needed – whether that is scholarship assistance or help for students preparing to take the bar exam. For example, $1,500 funds a commuter scholarship for one student or funds a bar tutor for at-risk students.
  • Allow us to continue to create successful and innovative academic endeavors. For example, $4,000 enables a student to be designated as a Fellow at our Center for Innovation, Business, Law & Technology where they can work with emerging start-up companies or gain a deeper understanding of corporate compliance issues.
  • Help to expand our law library collections through targeted digital and hard-copy acquisitions.
  • Provide for a myriad of on-campus enrichment programs impossible to sustain with a shrinking budget. Every $100 helps to ensure our students can access writing workshops, honors programs and other events.
  • Help to create opportunities for a new generation of Touro students by exposing them to the exceptional educational experience that you encountered while at Touro Law.

Touro Law Center not only is dedicated to creating practice ready lawyers and future leaders, but also is committed to the community. With the recent addition of the Community Justice Center-- the first-ever legal incubator on Long Island-- Touro Law is working with recent alumni to help them in establishing legal practices that focus on the community's needs, in areas such as immigration and foreclosure. You can read more about the Community Justice Center here. Additionally, there has recently been the creation of the new Veterans' & Servicemembers' Rights Clinic and the Land Use & Sustainable Development Institute

Contributions you make to Touro Law today are not only an investment in creating practice-ready lawyers in the future, but also an investment in the community. As Dean Salkin puts it: If you were called during our Phonathon and said you would consider a donation – now is the time. If you received a previous Appeal and put it aside, always meaning to send something – now is the time. Now is the time to make that first time gift – or that repeating year-end annual gift.
